Ibis Mojo SL

Thursday, May 8th, 2008
ibis_cycles.jpg

For 2008 Ibis have brought out the Ibis Mojo SL, a really light and oh so good looking carbon 5.5 inch travel bike. How did they come up with this you may ask, well the story goes: “Our brains were hurting after spending the 1900+ hours of cad and engineering time developing the Mojo, so we took a little bit of time off. It wasnt a lot of time-maybe a weekend-and we already were thinking about ways to improve it. Thats how we are. Fast forward more than a year and way more than a thousand Mojos later and we present to you the MojoSL. Lets get right down to it, because our brains are starting to hurt again.” Built up this bike is supposed to come in at around 10kg! That is for a 5.5″ all mountain or XC bike! We have yet to ride one, but the Ibis Mojo was such a hit that this one can only be better, because it is now lighter. This 2008 Mojo is specced with WTF components, that is “Way too feathery” if you were wondering.

Neuton Battery-Powered Mower

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

The EPA estimates that of the 800 million gallons of gas used to fuel lawn mowers in the U.S. every year, about 17 million gallons are spilled, which can contaminate ground water. However, your “it’s bad for the environment” excuse for not mowing the lawn is about to end. The Neuton Battery-Powered Mower (2007) is a smart alternative to loud, gas-guzzling machines that are difficult to start. It runs on a rechargeable battery, and in place of a pull-cord, this mower starts by turning a safety knob and squeezing the handlebar. When the handlebar is released, the blade stops spinning. The Neuton Mower produces no CO2 emissions, and the 24-volt battery gives you enough juice to mow for 45 to 60 minutes, or approximately a third of an acre per charge. Included with the Mower are a Mulching Plug, Bagger, Side Discharge Chute, Battery and Battery Charger, Safety Key and two wrenches. There are no spark plugs or air filters to replace, and the Neuton never needs a tune up. The cutting height is adjustable, and if you’re still looking for an excuse for not mowing the lawn, here you go: Longer grass tends to have a deeper root system, and needs less water than shorter grass.

Ben Wilson, inventor/designer/skateboarder/vehicle maniac from London, just sent me these recent pictures of a “Monowheel” project he’s been working on for a while. The finished thing looks amazing. According to him, it needs a bit of practice to be ridden properly. It’s on display at the 21-21 Issey Miyake Gallery in Tokyo until June.
