Ryan Bingham Junky Star

For some artists, winning an Oscar would represent reaching a pinnacle. For Ryan Bingham, who took home the Academy Award for “The Weary Kind,” his hauntingly beautiful theme song for the acclaimed film Crazy Heart, it instead represented a crossroads and a decision about which path to take. “When there are a lot of people around saying ‘look, you have to capitalize on this and do something really commercial,’ you might think about it for a second,” admits the LA-based singer-songwriter. “But at the end of the day, there’s not a chance in hell I could do that. It made me sick to my stomach just thinking about it. I couldn’t get up in front of people and play a bunch of stuff that didn’t mean anything to me.”

Bingham puts that philosophy to the test in a big way on Junky Star, his third album on Lost Highway, which was recorded in a matter of days with producer T Bone Burnett, his collaborator on the Crazy Heart soundtrack. The disc delivers a bracing fusion of pensive, gravelly ballads – like “Hallelujah,” which is not a Leonard Cohen cover, but his own take on mortality, delivered from the other side of the veil – and raw, rock’n'roll cuts that showcase Bingham’s incisive, darkly compelling lyrical bent.

Bingham channels a number of unique spirits over the course of the album, leading with his sensitive side on “The Poet” and kicking out the jams on the Waylon-meets-Keith Richards “All Choked Up Again.” Elsewhere, as in songs like “Depression” – a vivid evocation of our current social climate that’d have Woody Guthrie nodding in approval – and the album’s poignant title track, Bingham applies his wizened rasp with precise strokes, wringing emotion from every note.

Small Craft on a Milk Sea is a 2010 album by British electronic musician and record producer Brian Eno. The album—his debut with Warp Records—is scheduled for release on 2 November 2010, with a British release date of 15 November. The album was recorded with collaborators Jon Hopkins and Leo Abrahams in 2009 and 2010 and will be released in several formats, including Compact Disc; digital; a box set featuring the album on Compact Disc, vinyl, and download, a bonus CD with four extra tracks, and a lithograph by Eno; and another box set with all of the previous media and a 12″ square silkscreen print by Eno and a copper plate.

ABKCO Records and UBISOFT have announced the August 24, 2010 release of the soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World™: The Game. Anamanaguchi, a four-piece melodic, 8-bit rock band from Brooklyn, created a freshly conceived 24-song soundtrack to the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World video game from Ubisoft, following the release of the critically acclaimed film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, directed by Edgar Wright, from Universal Pictures. The game soundtrack follows ABKCO’s release of both the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World original motion picture soundtrack as well as the original score album featuring music composed by Nigel Godrich, which were released August 10.

ORBS began in the fall of 2007 after a series of cross country file swapping sessions between guitarist Dan Briggs (Between the Buried and Me) and keyboardist Ashley Ellyllon (Abigail Williams/Cradle of Filth), later joined by Adam Fisher (Fear Before the March of Flames). The band mixes high energy, 90′s tinged space-rock with thunderous piano driven choruses, lush melodic textures, and quirky progressive rock passages and song structures. “Asleep Next to Science” is the band’s debut album.

Hearts of Black Science Ghost You Left Behind

From Gothenburg, Sweden comes alternative electro-rock act Hearts of Black Science with their melancholic and sometimes dark pop with haunting melodies. In the winter of November 2005, the two childhood friends Daniel Änghede and Tomas Almgren met up after Tomas had spent the last seven years in London and Berlin, working on a career as a horror movie director and Daniel’s band had just split up so they decided to join forces.

In April of 2006 the band released a self financed EP that sold out in just 2 months on My space and a second EP was released the following month. The band was signed shortly after the A&R scout from Club AC30 saw them performing their second gig ever at the Water Rats Theatre in London. The debut album The Ghost You Left Behind was released by the London based record company in the spring of 2007. The full-length was later followed by two singles, Empty City Lights & Driverlights.
A digital download single of Walking With the Sun, a CD collection of remixes & unused tracks and a new album will be out in 2009.

Hearts of Black Science have been touring in the U.K several times and BBC radio invited the duo twice to perform live on air on the Gideon Coe and Tom Robinson shows. The album has been praised by both international press and their fans, Swedens – Zero Music Magazine gave the album 9 / 10 and U.S based – Virus Magazine gave it 8 / 10. The album has also been released in Japan as a special edition by Quince Records and Broken Silence released the album in Germany on the 20th of July.

The band has also been featured on a charity compilation CD sharing the spotlight with such acts as Client and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
