BeeMi Gallery
If you’re in central Illinois around April 15-18, you’ll have the privilege of seeing an arts community come alive for an annual festival called the Boneyard Arts Festival. There are many notable places to see art in Champaign-Urbana during this time of year, but in 2009 a fly-by-night gallery emerged, strictly for the festival, located in a building under construction. BeeMi Gallery blew away their competition with their interesting melange of artists and musicians who came together for the love of artistic collaboration, counter-culture, and the community.
They recently announced that they will be occupying yet another building in transition for the 2010 festival, featuring many more artists and musicians. Yesterday they posted their music line up which looks like an exciting mix of local DJs spinning up a variety of different music styles from industrial to dubstep. The artwork is by an assortment of individuals that work day jobs ranging from tattoo artist to publication professionals; creating art in their free time because they love it. The art on display is as unique and diverse as the artists themselves with a mixture of mediums like hand crafted wearables, sculpture, painting, and photography.
