February seems very appropriate for the release of Hot Chip’s fourth full length album, One Life Stand, because they seem to have reached that stage in every musician’s career where they settle for fewer quality tracks because they’re in love. They continue to have a very upbeat, synth-pop sound, but the lyrics seem notably happier and cheesier. The first single off the album is the title track, but the entire first half of the album packs a lot of good tunes, some of which are better than the single. Hand Me Down Your Love seems reminiscent of ballads from the late Elliott Smith and I Feel Better will surely find its way into clubs across the country. Overall, if you’re a fan of Hot Chip, you’re going to like this one too.
