Slipknot sets the listener up for a devastating new album with the mounting intro .execute. on ‘All Hope Is gone’ their fourth offering. Dawning new masks, the group returns as a whole for the first time since 2004. Functioning like a well oiled machine, Slipknot taunts the eardrums limits with their precise guitar riffs and churning drums. Mixing raw throaty screams and powerful clean vocals in songs such as ‘Psychosocial’, Slipknots sound is consistent with previous efforts, but it’s a winning formula. Hints of Corey Taylor and Jim Root’s band Stone Sour make their way into the new record near the midpoint and tracks such as ‘Snuff’ allow the listener a slight break from an over all pummeling.
